The SPIRA Method
A somatic-psychological framework that builds lasting nervous system
capacity so change holds under real-world pressure.
You have tried to fix this before.
You have tried pushing through it, outworking it, resting, maybe even asking for help. And some of it helped for a while. But the pattern kept coming back because the pattern is not in your head. It is in your body. And your body has been holding onto something your mind decided was over a long time ago.
Five phases that go beyond coping to create real, lasting shift.
SPIRA is a framework where each phase builds on the one before it but the body remains the reference point throughout. We keep returning to it because the nervous system holds a wisdom that the mind alone cannot access, and lasting change depends on staying connected to that.
S
Sense
Everything begins with the body. Most high performers have spent years overriding their internal signals in order to keep going. Sense is about rebuilding the connection to what your body is actually telling you, in real time, before it escalates into symptoms.
P
Pattern
Once you can sense what is happening in your body, you begin to see the patterns driving it. Deeply ingrained psychological imprints formed early in life: attachment patterns, core beliefs about worth and safety, learned responses to conflict and authority. High-pressure environments do not create these patterns, they activate them.
I
Integrate
This is where body and mind start working together rather than separately. Through somatic dialogue, we connect the psychological patterns to their physical expression — the tightness before a high-stakes meeting, the shutdown during conflict, the inability to rest even when exhausted. When insight meets the body, change reaches a level that thinking alone cannot.
R
Regulate
Regulation is about building range. A regulated nervous system can mobilise fully when performance demands it and recover fully when it does not. Most high performers are stuck in one gear — mobilisation without recovery. This phase builds genuine nervous system flexibility so you can move between states rather than getting locked in one.
A
Anchor
Embedding what has shifted into how you live, lead, relate, and work every day. For individuals, this means integration into daily life and relationships. For organisations, it extends into team culture and systems. Regulation becomes your baseline rather than something you have to consciously maintain.
What SPIRA makes possible.
Clarity under pressure
You stop reacting and start responding. Decisions come from a grounded place rather than a survival one.
Sustainable energy
You stop running on adrenaline and start operating from genuine capacity. Recovery happens between demands, not after a collapse.
Emotional range
You feel more, not less. The numbness lifts and you reconnect with the parts of your life that burnout quietly shut down.
Improved relationships
You show up differently with the people who matter because you are no longer performing your way through every interaction.
A life that feels like yours
The gap between who you are at work and who you actually are starts to close. You stop surviving your success and start living it.
I built SPIRA because I believe the people who give the most to the world deserve to feel whole while doing it. The body already knows the way back. We just need a framework that can meet it there.
For people and organisations under real pressure.
High-functioning, high-achieving, and running on a nervous system that has been in overdrive too long. You do not need to be in crisis. You just need to recognise that the way you are operating is no longer sustainable.
Your people are capable. Their nervous systems are depleted. SPIRA gives them the internal capacity to sustain what you are asking of them without the hidden costs of burnout, turnover, and declining decision quality.
Grounded in established science.
SPIRA draws on somatic psychology, Somatic Experiencing, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and evidence-based psychological approaches including CBT and mindfulness-based methods. These are disciplines validated independently that become more powerful when combined within a structured framework.
The methodology was developed by Maria Meramveliotaki, who brings an MSc in Counselling, a BSc in Psychology, professional training across multiple modalities, ten years in clinical psychotherapy practice, and over a decade in senior corporate leadership — bridging the gap between the therapeutic and the corporate world.
